Orange Open Space Community Engagement Program
Alliance funding 2021
Central West Councils Environment & Waterways Alliance has funded a range of projects for our Member Councils in 2021 that will contribute to positive environmental outcomes across our region. Grant funds of up to a maximum of $5,000 has been distributed to Councils who were able to demonstrate matched funds for environmental projects within their 2021-22 budgets and operational plans.
Funding under this round was specifically for on-ground works and not projects that are predominantly based on planning, reporting or assessment.
Orange Open Space Community Engagement Program to Enhance Biodiversity and Build Community Capacity - orange city Council
The project will continue on with the enhancement of the local biodiversity by extending and building on current community engagement activities undertaken in the Orange LGA and empowering local community members to become involved in natural resource management activities.
At some of the project sites woody weeds will be removed and replaced with local endemic plant species enriching local biodiversity and creating habitat, a food source and wildlife corridors for native fauna. At other sites the community will be invited to participate in plant identification to allow them to recognize native plants from exotic species through events such as Wild Flower Walks held in spring.
These events will also introduce community members to basic natural resource management issues. Schools will be encouraged to become involved in the program.
Further information will be added to this page as the project proceeds.
